Lyricist Muthukumar shown the door
Noted lyricist Naa Muthukumar was recently shown the exit door as the lyricist from India’s premier production house, AVM Productions’ upcoming film ‘Mudhal Idam’. The film stars Vidharth of ‘Mynaa’ fame in the lead opposite a newcomer and is directed by first-timer Kumaran.
AVM’s work culture is very different from the many production companies in existence in Kollywood. The company, which has produced films in many Indian languages, has the habit of doing everything related to the film within the premises of its sprawling studios at Saligramam, Chennai.
Though unhesitant to go outdoors, it’s an unwritten rule that the technical work is to be carried out within the premises. Whoever related to the film produced by AVM – be it the actors, technicians, music directors or lyricists – would have to come to the premises to work in the film. None – including superstar Rajnikanth – is exempted from this ritual.
Muthukumar, who was entrusted with the job of penning the lyrics for the film, was called for composing the songs by the production team. Instead of going to the AVM premises, Muthukumar reportedly asked Kumaran to come to his place.
When AVM Saravanan came to know about this, he plainly told his aides to replace Muthukumar with another lyricist.
Not always one can change the rule!
