Actor S Ve Shekher joins Congress
Expelled AIADMK MLA and actor S Ve Shekher joined the Indian National Congress on 6th February, in the presence Tamil Nadu state President Thangabalu, Union Shipping Minister G K Vasan, EVKS Elangovan, Krishnaswamy, Thirunavukkarasar and Anbarasu.
There were speculations he would join DMK following his proximity with party President M Karunanidhi and his son M K Stalin. Mr. Shekher, however, chose to join the national party and said he had kept DMK leaders informed of his decision.
S Ve Shekher who has acted in many Tamil films, left the BJP to join the AIADMK on the eve of the May 2006 Tamil Nadu Assembly elections, got elected from the Brahmin-dominated constituency of Mylapore in the city. He had trounced DMK’s D Napolean, now Union Minister of state for Social justice and empowerment.
However in 2009, AIADMK Supremo J Jayalalitha expelled him from the party after he openly lauded Chief Minister M Karunanidhi’s son and heir-apparent M K Stalin on his appointment as Deputy Chief Minister. Though he was expelled in 2009, he has since remained an “unattached member” in the Tamil Nadu Assembly.
This Kalaimamani and Kalaivanar awardee has performed more than 5600 stage shows and entered in Limca Book of records thrice. S Ve Shekar associated with various social activities now joins the Congress and unwields a new turn in the fast approaching assembly elections.
