Gautham Menon to re launch Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikkalam
After lying in cold storage for more than five years, director Gautham Menon’s much-spoken about project ‘Chennaiyil Oru Mazhaikkalam’ is likely to be given a new lease of life, sources say.
The film was launched in early 2005 featuring Suriya and Asin in the lead roles. However, after a photo shoot, the film was delayed and then subsequently called off due to Gautham’s personal problems. In the intervening time, Suriya and Asin paired up in ‘Ghajini’ and ‘Vel’ and Asin went off to Bollywood and established herself there. Suriya gained from strength to strength, thanks to hits like ‘Vaaranam Ayiram’, ‘Ayan’, ‘Aadhavan’ and ‘Singam’.
Menon then started the film again with Trisha and Nikita (remember her ‘item’ number in Venkatprabhu’s ‘Saroja’?) playing the lead roles. After shooting a few sequences in Chennai and Hyderabad, the shooting again came to a standstill due to Menon’s other commitments like ‘Vaaranam Ayiram’ and ‘Vinnai Thaandi Varuvaaya’.
Now that he’s turned producer too, Menon is said to be planning to revive ‘Chennaiyil…’ with the script designed to deal with the youths sweating it out in IT companies at odd hours.
Trisha plays a typical modern girl employed in a leading software company and four other youths would be playing major roles as the script revolves around the ‘friendship’ that prevails between them and Trisha (traces of Vikraman’s Pudhu Vasantham?). ‘Unnale Unnale’ and ‘Jodi No. 1 fame’ dancer Sathish is playing one of the youths.
