Transgender Rose

Transgender Rose Venkatesanhas expressed her willingness to contest the upcoming election on behalf of Vijayakanth’sDMDK from the Karur assembly constituency. She has filed the application with the actor-politician and is awaiting the result of her nomination.

Rose has many ‘firsts’ to her credit. She happens to be the first transgender to have successfully hosted a reality television programme ‘Ippadikku Rose’ on a popular regional channel Vijay TV which ran into many episodes. Born and brought up in Chennai, she finished her engineering degree before successfully pursuing her M.S. in America and returning to India.

She also went ahead and completed a course on producing television programmes from Chennai’s Loyola College. Speaking to reporters, Rose said, “The Transgenders are a vastly marginalized community; though we are 35 to 75 lakhs in population, we are considered a minority but are not accorded the rights that should be given to a minority community.

“We do have right to vote. I like Vijayakanth’s attitude towards our community and appreciate his sincerity in trying to help us in all possible manner. My decision to contest election is part of my initiative to keep up the social work I have been doing for many years. If my leader wishes, I’m even ready to contest opposite the DMK chief,” sounds a confident Rose.
