Star-casts: Mysskin, Snigitha, Ashwath and others
Music: Ilayaraja

Cinematography: Mahesh Muthusamy
Director Mysskin has been making moviesthat have a simple plot, but boasts of a special screenplay. In fact, such factors have kept him high on charts getting the best appreciations. Just like his ‘Chitthiram Pesudhadi’ and ‘Anjathey’, Mysskin crafts a gripping screenplay in ‘Nandhalala’ that is inspired from Japanese movie ‘Kikujiro’. Travelogue based films is one of the toughest genres to handle, but on pars, if made with best appeal, it’s sure to grab everyone’s interests. Yes ‘narration’ and ‘characterization’ really matters a lot into such genres.
Fine! Let’s take a sneak look in the film’s synopsis and take on with analysis.
Bhaskar Mani (Mysskin) escapes from the home of mentally challenged patients and is on the way, where he comes across a young boy. The lad has a photo of lady, who happens to be his mom. He is in search of his mother and finds help with Bhaskar Mani as they decide to embark the new journey. This isn’t just a journey, but a philosophy we come across some characters that are so close to our heart.
Starting off with director’s cut – Mysskin’s visual realms has been of the commonalities in all his films. It’s good to see a wonderful description of scenes, where the visuals overshadow the dialogues. Mysskin is the one who strongly believes in – A Picture Speaks 1000 Words’. In all likelihood, the film ‘Nandhalala’ sticks to the theme.
Many sequences in the film are signified through the visuals. But it may look literally odd for certain audiences. It’s hard to kindle their cognizance merely watching a single film of this genre at this point of time.
Performance by every character is prodigious as they breathe more lives into the roles they haveplayed. Starting with Mysskin to the small characters like the little girl, who helps them reach their destination to a certain degree have played their roles well.
The scene where Mysskin runs towards the gigantic personalities on the bike depicts his brilliant body language. Needless to mention, he is so outstanding throughout the film. Why portray heroines in the role of sex-workers in such movies. We have seen whole lot of films that has an innocent herofalling in love with a sex-worker. Don’t they have ideas of portraying desolated women in any other characters? The young guy Ashwath comes up with a naturalistic performance. Mysskin sprinkles the right ingredients of entertainment with fun, entertainment, a different delineation of love coated with more emotions. Rohini’s characterization is weak as she doesn’t have much to perform.
Ilayaraja is the hero as his musical score spells a tremendous effect on the visuals canned by Mahesh Muthusamy. The symphonic orchestra in the background score during second half is fantastic. Cinematographer Mahesh Muthusamy needs special mention for his camera works.
‘Nandhalala’ is a gripping movie and strong word of mouth publicity will help it succeed at box office.
Verdict: A trenchant work by Mysskin.
