Actor-Director Seeman released from Jail
A day after the Madras High Court quashed his detainment under the National Security Act, film director and leader of the Naam Tamizhar Iyakkam, Seeman, was released from Vellore Central Prison on Friday.
Volunteers of his organization gave a rousing reception to Mr Seeman, who was in prison for five months.
In a brief interaction with waiting newspersons outside the prison, he accused the DMK government of foisting this case, with the sole aim of imprisoning him. The police was well aware that it was not a fit case for detaining him under NSA, but still they went ahead and foisted the case as per the directives of the higher authorities to detain him in prison, he alleged.
“I will file a case against government for detaining me in prison for five months, crippling my activities and preventing from taking up party works.”, he told reporters.
Later, addressing the volunteers in front of the prison, he accused Tamil Nadu CM Karunanidhi of failing to protect the Sri Lankan Tamils and stiffling the voice of people, who speak for the Lankan Tamils.
He also indicated that he would contest against Chief Minister M Karunanidhi in the coming assembly elections.

Seeman, who was arrested under NSA, which did not entitle him to seek bail and ensured detention for one year, was released after a division bench of High Court quashed the detention order under the NSA.
On Thursday, the bench comprising bench comprising Justices Elipe Dharma Rao and D Hariparanthaman had quashed the order on the ground that the Chennai City Additional Commissioner of Police (CoP) was not the competent authority, detaining Seeman for allegedly inciting people to attack Sinhalese students in Chennai while condemning the Sri Lankan forces attack on Indian fishermen.
