Priyamani meets Ameer to resurrect her career
Pretty Priyamani is searching for answers to questions. The dusky beauty, who won the national award for ‘best actress’ for her role of a deglamourized village belle in Ameer’s ‘Paruthiveeran’ more than three years back, is still searching for that elusive role which would endear her to Tamil fans and the public alike.
Priyamani tried hard to come out of her ‘Muthupaechi’ (the name of the character she played in Paruthiveeran) by playing modern and glamourous roles in films like ‘Thotta’ and ‘Malaikkottai’ and again with ‘Arumugam’. As ill-luck would have it, all the films failed at the box-office and tag of ‘unlucky actress’ stuck with her.
Her Telugu films, however, were a huge relief for her as she managed to churn out one hit after another. She even donned a bikini in one of her successful Telugu films, paving the way for many offers pouring in her way. Her latest attempts in evoking a response from Tamil fans with miniscule roles in ace director Maniratnam’s ‘Raavan’ and Ram Gopal Verma’s ‘Ratha Sarithiram’.
Her never-ending wait for a break in Tamil films continue in the year which has just dawned. Despite not getting any new film offers in Tamil, she is very clear in her mind that she won’t again take up small roles like the ones she did in ‘Raavan’ and ‘Ratha Sarithiram’ for Maniratnam and RGV respectively. It’s better to be idle than doing small roles and getting forgotten by the audience, she feels.
She reportedly met Ameer and is said to have requested him to sound her if he thinks of a script equal to or better than ‘Paruthiveeran’. The response from Ameer’ side is not yet known!
