Mani Ratnams Ponniyin Selvan to overtake Endhiran
With a niche for creating films with elements of history or mythology, Renowned director Mani Ratnam the ace director is planning a full-fledged adaptation of the novel.
It is an adaptation of the famous Kalki’s epic novel Ponniyin Selvan which is widely regarded as the greatest novel ever written in Tamil and is a fiction on Raja Raja Chola, which was a highly popular novel known for its grand theme and colorful characters.
It tells about the Chola Empire during the 10th century and the script outlines the course of events around Vandiyathevan, a charming young man who comes to the Chola land to deliver a message from the Crown Prince. Sources have it that popular writer Jayamohan will pen dialogues for the film.
‘Ponniyin Selvan’ has been a dream for many actors and directors, including the maverick Kamal Haasan. It is also Superstar Rajinikanth’s favorite novel in Tamil.
Reportedly, Kalanidhi Maran’s production house Sun Pictures has showed interest in producing the film, which requires a whopping budget of Rs. 200 crores. The deal will surely overtake the recent blockbuster Endhiran’s made possible with a staggering budget of 150 crores.
Santosh Sivan will be the cinematographer. Although an official note on the cast is still awaited.
A lot will be expected as it tob e made at such a huge cost.
We hope this is a new beginning for Tamil cinema and surely expect a revisit to ancient traditions and our rich heritage.
