Ekta Kapoor: Vinu Chakravathys Approval is not needed for Silk Film

Ekta Kapoor
Ekta Kapoor, famed Bollywood filmmaker , has lashed out at veteran Tamil actor Vinu Chakravarthy’s statement that script of any film on the late ‘Silk’ Smitha would invariably have to seek his approval and consent as it was he who ‘created’ the myth called ‘Silk’ Smitha, by introducing her in the Tamil film ‘Vandichakkaram’ more than three decades back.(Click here for More)
‘Silk’ Smitha went on to become one of the most celebrated ‘item’ girls in the country as she acquired almost a ‘magnetic’ image which drew many actors, producers and directors as she continued to sizzle throughout the eighties and till the mid-nineties.
Recently , Ekta announced the launch of the film ‘The Dirty Picture’, a film based on the late ‘Silk’ Smitha’s life. The film would also explore the reasons which abetted Smitha’s suicide, it was said. Bollywood’s Kerala-born Vidya Balan, not known for many glamourous roles, would be playing Smitha’s role. Vinu had also criticized the choice of Vidya Balan, whom he described as having a ‘sad face’ and had said that either Deepika Padukone or Aishwarya Rai would have been a better choice.
Getting back at Vinu, Ekta dismissed Vinu’s claims of being Smitha’s ‘godfather’ and said he wasn’t not even a ‘blood relative’ of the late actress and that there wasn’t any need for her to either take his approval or discuss with him about the making of the film. “Your services, free or otherwise, aren’t needed at all,” says Ektaa and adds that she was ready to face him in Court if need be.
